Why we stock it

Deutz's prestige blanc de blancs, made from Chardonnay alone and only in declared vintages. Deutz is one of the older houses in Ay and one of the quieter ones.

We stock it because the prestige champagne shelf should not be only three houses deep. Deutz sells on what is in the bottle rather than on the strength of its label, which is exactly why it belongs here.

Amour de Deutz is the prestige cuvée of a house that has been in Aÿ since 1838. It is chardonnay only, drawn from the best sites Deutz has access to, and released only in years the house declares a vintage.

Fine and tightly drawn rather than showy — white flowers, lemon pith and almond over a chalky line, with the toasted note that comes from long ageing on lees. Serve cool in a white wine glass and give it a few minutes. Oysters, but it will carry a whole meal.
