Why we stock it

Karu's classic build - juniper, lemon peel, cardamom, ginger, nutmeg - made to sit in the well and do the everyday work.

We stock it because a shop that only carries the interesting bottles is not much use on a Friday. This is the gin for a gin and tonic you are not thinking hard about.

Pourtrait is Karu Distillery's take on a London Dry, built on juniper, lemon and orange peel, cardamom, angelica root, cassia bark, liquorice root, fresh ginger and nutmeg. Karu distils on the foothills of the Blue Mountains at Grose Vale, growing what botanicals they can on the property and buying the rest from small Australian farms.

The nose is classic — juniper first, then bright citrus and something green behind it. The palate is where it stops being ordinary: nutmeg and cassia bring a real warmth, and the ginger keeps it lively. It makes an excellent G&T with a wedge of orange rather than lime, and it has enough backbone for a Negroni.
