The benchmark Islay. Sixteen years is long enough to have rounded off the edges without losing the tar, the seaweed and the smoke that make the island's whisky what it is.

We stock it because it is the bottle that settles arguments about what peat means. If someone wants to understand the style rather than sample around it, this is where we send them.

The benchmark Islay single malt, distilled on the island's south shore between Laphroaig and Ardbeg and matured for sixteen years — long, by Islay standards, and it shows.

Deep peat smoke wrapped around sweet sherried fruit, with iodine, seaweed and a dry, tarry edge. The length is what separates it from younger Islay whisky: the smoke recedes slowly rather than dropping away. Drink it neat, after dinner, with nothing competing for attention.
